Siân was appointed the firm’s Managing Partner in 2024. She is a European and UK Patent Attorney with over 25 years’ experience. She specialises in the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications in a broad spectrum of technical fields that includes pharmaceuticals, formulation technology, drug delivery, molecular biology, biological assays, gene sequences, DNA sequencing technologies, array technologies, genomics proteomics, stem cells, diagnostics, cancer therapeutics, immuno-therapeutics, cell culturing technology and equipment, medical devices, substrates for inhalation systems, food and plant products and processing, filter technology and packaging technology.
Siân specialises in managing international patent portfolios and coordinating prosecution around the globe, using her extensive knowledge of local patent law and practice to obtain the best outcomes for her clients.
Siân works closely with clients to ensure that they get the most out of their intellectual property, making sure that key development work is adequately protected and devising IP strategies to give them a competitive advantage. Most importantly, Siân assists clients to align their IP with the overall commercial and strategic aims of their business. She strives to consistently provide proactive, business-relevant advice by not only getting to know her clients’ technology and business, but also those of their competitors.
Siân regularly delivers presentations on a variety of topics including the developing caselaw around Plausibility at the EPO and in the national courts around Europe and is an active member of a number of biotech organisations.
Siân is passionate about Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and is a member of the Senior Leaders’ Think Tank of IP Inclusive and a member of Venner Shipley’s EDI forum. Siân is also a member of the firm’s ESG Committee.
Education
Siân has an honours degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford and a Masters degree in the Management of Intellectual Property from Queen Mary, University of London.

Siân ist als European Patent Attorney und UK Patent Attorney zugelassen und spezialisiert auf die Ausarbeitung, Einreichung und Betreuung von Patentanmeldungen in einem breiten Spektrum technischer Fachgebiete. Hierzu gehören unter anderem die Fachgebiete Arzneimittel, Formulierungstechnologie, Wirkstoffverabreichung, Molekularbiologie, biologische Assays, Gensequenzen, DNA-Sequenziertechnologie, Array-Technologie, Genomik Proteomik, Stammzellen, Diagnostik, Krebstherapeutika, Immuntherapieverfahren, Zellkulturtechnologie und Zellkulturausrüstung, Medizinprodukte, Filtertechnologie und Verpackungstechnologie.
Siân hat erhebliche Erfahrung in der Verteidigung von Patenten und in Widerspruchsverfahren vor dem Europäischen Patentamt, darunter auch bekannte Verfahren, in denen es um Blockbuster-Medikamente für die Behandlung von Atemwegserkrankungen ging. Siân vertritt regelmäßig Mandanten vor der Prüfungsabteilung und der Widerspruchsabteilung des Europäischen Patentamts in München und in Den Haag sowie bei Verhandlungen vor der Beschwerdekammer.
Zudem arbeitet Siân bei der Betreuung von globalen Patentportfolios eng mit anderen Anwälten im Ausland zusammen.
Siân ist die enge Zusammenarbeit mit ihren Mandanten sehr wichtig, um ihnen den bestmöglichen Schutz für wichtige Entwicklungsarbeiten zu bieten und um gewerbliche Rechtsschutzstrategien zur Schaffung eines Marktvorsprungs zu entwickeln. Somit können Mandanten ihr geistiges Eigentum optimal nutzen. Um proaktive Beratung anbieten zu können, beschäftigt sich Siân nicht nur mit der Technologie und den Produkten ihrer eigenen Mandanten sondern auch mit denen der Konkurrenz.
Siân berät regelmäßig bei Rechtsverletzungs- und Gültigkeitsfragen und hilft Mandanten, die Möglichkeiten des gewerblichen Rechtsschutzes in ihren Fachgebieten zu verstehen und zu nutzen.

Ausbildung:
Siân studierte Biowissenschaften an der Universität Oxford und erwarb den Master in Management of Intellectual Property an der Queen Mary University of London.
