Meet our Team: Fabian Bor

As part of our ‘Meet our Team’ series, we ask Fabian Bor, a UK and European Patent Attorney based in our London office, about his journey into intellectual property, what he enjoys about working at Venner Shipley and what his hobbies are outside of work.

When did you join Venner Shipley and what office do you work in?

I joined Venner Shipley in 2021 and I work in the London office.

How did you get into working in IP?

After leaving university, I was looking for a role where I could pursue my scientific and engineering interests without being sent to a lab. A friend of mine was a patent attorney and introduced me to the field of IP and after some of my own investigation I found it was the right fit.

What areas do you currently specialise in in your role?

I work in the mechanical engineering team, specifically in the fields manufacturing, medical devices, automotives, nanotechnology, aerospace and construction. I also have experience with materials science and electronics patent applications as well as registered design applications.

What do you enjoy most about working in IP?

I love the problem-solving aspect of being a patent attorney, whether it be the problem of how to describe a new invention, or a problematic patent office that I have to argue against. I think I just like arguing.

What recent successes have you had?

I have recently dual qualified as a European and UK patent attorney after a few years of exams. In my personal life, I have just completed the 3 Peaks Challenge, climbing the tallest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in under 24 hours.

What’s the best thing about working at Venner Shipley?

The people.

What do you think is the next big thing in IP? 

I would like to think more AI tools will be generated to assist our day jobs (assist not take over).

What do you do outside of work? 

I love swimming, cycling, running and gaming.
