Profile

Nusrat is a UK and European Patent Attorney and UPC Representative in our Electronics, Software and Communications team.

She advises a broad range of clients, from multinational technology companies to innovative start-ups, on the protection and development of patent portfolios across electronics, telecommunications, software and artificial intelligence technologies.

She has extensive experience in patent drafting and prosecution before the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office, as well as coordinating global filing and prosecution strategies. Having also gained in-house experience, Nusrat combines strong technical expertise with a practical understanding of the commercial considerations that shape intellectual property strategy.

A significant part of Nusrat’s practice focuses on telecommunications technologies, particularly innovations relating to mobile communications standards. She regularly drafts and prosecutes patent applications directed to technologies developed for 3GPP standards, including innovations relevant to 5G/6G networks. Her work encompasses a wide range of technical areas, including radio access technologies, network optimisation, resource allocation, mobility management, protocol enhancements, and technologies supporting improved voice and video communications. She has considerable experience working with standards-related inventions and standards-essential patent (SEP) portfolios, helping clients secure robust patent protection for technologies that contribute to internationally adopted communications standards.

Nusrat also has substantial experience in computer-implemented inventions and emerging digital technologies. She regularly advises on inventions involving artificial intelligence and machine learning, including technologies for data processing, predictive analytics, recommendation systems, intelligent automation, computer vision, and AI-enabled user experiences. Her practice covers innovations deployed across a range of sectors, including e-commerce, consumer electronics, connected devices and digital communications platforms. She works closely with clients to identify patentable aspects of AI-driven technologies and to develop prosecution strategies that effectively address the patentability requirements for software and AI-related inventions in Europe and the UK.

In addition, Nusrat advises on inventions relating to wearable technologies, user-device interactions, connected and smart devices, software platforms, and cloud-based technologies. She is experienced in translating complex technical concepts into commercially valuable patent protection and enjoys working with innovators at the forefront of technological development.

Education

Nusrat holds a BEng in Electronic Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where her final-year project focused on image and video coding. She also obtained a distinction in her Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London.
