Mary Kate Rylands

Profile

Mary Kate is a Part-qualified Patent Attorney in our Chemical and Life Sciences team. Since joining Venner Shipley in 2023, Mary Kate has gained experience drafting and prosecuting UK and European patent applications. This experience has spanned a wide variety of technical fields, including pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, battery chemistry, catalysis and nanoparticle technology.

Education

Mary Kate graduated from Durham University in 2022 with a first class master’s degree in Chemistry. Throughout her degree, she studied the fundamentals of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry. During her final year, Mary Kate completed a research project focussed on the design and synthesis of novel shapeshifting ligands incorporating the fluxional molecule bullvalene.

Since entering the profession, Mary Kate has obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London.
