Kathryn Rose

Profile

Kathryn is a European and UK Patent Attorney in the Electronics, Software and Communications team.

Kathryn is involved in the drafting, filing and prosecution of UK, European and International patent applications in various fields encompassing a range of electromechanical devices, including medical devices and appliances. She has experience in EPO opposition work and manages the prosecution of global patent portfolios, working closely with a variety of domestic and overseas attorneys. Kathryn also has significant in-house experience, having been seconded to the patents departments of three companies during her time at Venner Shipley.

Kathryn also has a certificate in IP Litigation and is a registered Representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

Education

Kathryn graduated with a first-class honours degree before completing a PhD in Glaciology at the University of Southampton where her research involved the development of autonomous, wireless, multi-sensor probes for deployment in the first environmental sensor network on a glacier. In the course of her PhD, she gained practical experience of microscopy techniques, dGPS, and ground penetrating radar, as well as the use of other mechanical and technical instrumentation in laboratories and a field work setting. In subsequent post-doctoral positions at British Antarctic Survey and the University of Bristol, she used geophysical techniques (principally ice-penetrating radar) to assess the properties and dynamics of ice sheets.

Her research has led to multiple publications in journals such as Science and IEEE.
