Harriet Boswell

Profile

Harriet is a European and UK Patent Attorney in our Chemical and Life Science team. She has particular experience in medical devices, consumer products, materials and mechanical systems.

Harriet joined Venner Shipley in 2024 having previously worked as a patent attorney both in private practice and in-house for a leading UK internet retailer and grocery business. While working in-house, she provided advice on the commercial aspects of IP protection and management of IP assets. She also worked directly with inventors to support capitalisation of IP within the business.

Harriet has experience drafting and prosecuting European, national and international patent applications. She also has experience obtaining registered design protection in the UK and worldwide using the Hague System. 

Education

Harriet graduated from Imperial College, London with a first-class Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering. During this time, she was awarded an Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining Prize. Following this, she obtained an MPhil in Nanomaterials and Electron Microscopy, also from Imperial College. Her research focused on quantitative electron energy-loss spectroscopy.

Harriet then went on to complete a PhD in Biophysics and Materials Science at the University of Cambridge. Harriet’s PhD research focused on strategies to promote dentine remineralisation. Whilst in her PhD, she was awarded a Microscopy and Microanalysis Presidential Scholar Award for her presentation at the Microscopy and Microanalysis conference.

Harriet has also gained a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London.
