Emma Longland

Profile

Emma is a European and UK Patent Attorney in our Chemical and Life Sciences team. Emma has expertise with inventions in the medical and biotechnology fields, for example, antisense oligonucleotides, nucleic acid extraction and sequencing methods, CRISPR technologies, vaccines, antibodies, and protein therapeutics generally.

Emma works with all manner of clients, from universities and their spinouts to large pharmaceutical companies and overseas associates.  She has assisted her clients with the drafting and filing of patent applications, and overseeing their subsequent worldwide prosecution, but has developed a particular reputation for her prosecution of UK and European applications, and for getting applications granted that have stalled with Attorneys at other firms.  Emma is also developing an excellent reputation for her EPO opposition and appeal work, especially for representing her clients’ interests in complex multi-party proceedings.

Education

Emma has an MA in Natural Sciences and a Master of Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, where she specialised in Biochemistry. Emma also has a PhD from the University of Cambridge, for investigating the gene expression changes that occur during the development of cervical cancer.
