Ben Hawkins

Profile

Ben is a European and UK Patent Attorney and has been working in IP since 2019. He has handled patent applications for a variety of clients in a wide range of fields, including electronics, software, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and mechanical engineering. He joined Venner Shipley in June 2026 and is based in Bristol.

Ben has particular experience in drafting and prosecuting standard-essential patent applications relating to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

Prior to joining the IP profession, Ben completed a Master’s degree in Translational Quantum Technology at the University of Birmingham where he helped to develop a Magneto Optical Trap using a diffraction grating, and undertook research into laser technology for laser cooling.
